This song was written in my earlier fanatically vegetarian phases. I worked for Animal Liberation and promoted vegetarianism to all and sundry.

All created by Jay on nylon acoustic guitar, synths and DMX drum machine sometime in the mid-80's.

This song actually has three strange stories - one good, one average and one not so good. See below.

Free to stream and free/donation to download.

Good story first - the song was all written and recorded and, back before the internet, I had to find a way to get it out there so I tried contacting some of the animal rights groups. I sent a copy to one and they liked it and asked me to meet with them.

But they didn't want to do the song - the guy who received the cassette happened to work as a scriptwriter for an ad company and he had just been given a Bottlemart Bottleshop jingle to do. This was a national radio ad. Big money - $2,500 (in 1985 was a LOT!). So I did the ad. Embarrassing now - but that's advertising. I might post my jingles - one day.

So then the average story, buoyed-up by my jingle success, I contacted 2JJ and went on and talked about saving animals and saving the world and they thought I was a bit crazy - but they coped. I have that interview too but it's really not very good.

Lastly, with my last bit of dignity, I saw that Liberation Records (a subsidiary of Polygram) had just started so in all my naivety I made an appointment and took the track into them. But it turned out they had done it purely as a joke - made me go all the way in so they could make fun of me and the song.

The office assistant and secretary had carving knives and followed me across the office to the A&R guys room and then left laughing. Gotta love the music industry - full of such great people.

No wonder I gave up on Pop and made ambient music.

The Crazoids Willoughby, Australia

Crazy, young and frustrated with the ways of the world, The Crazoids was a futuristic, early-80's Pop music project created by Japetus, that reflected upon the quirky sides of humanity as it approached the challenges of the 21st century. This collection of demos is 'released' here under the album title of Real World. They are presented here purely in an historical context for posterity's sake. ... more
