about

Attic Dreamer was primarily inspired by the receptionist at the Audio/Visual company where I worked. She was really sweet but a complete air-head and didn't have a clue about any sense of deeper realities.

She would ditz around and complain about trivia and act as though she had no choice in any of it. She dressed like all good receptionists and came to work each day in a mindless haze.

She earned good money, was probably paying off a nice house and she played all the right games but she was inherently lost and unhappy and just didn't get it.

lyrics

Attic Dreamer

I looked around
You were being stupid again
Head in the ground
Cobwebs through your brain.

You leave yourself open
Just like an all-night cafe
Well baby here's hoping
Your dreams don't fade away.

I know there's so many ways
It's easy to be confused
But don't walk around in a daze
Just claiming your senses have fused.

Attic dreamer
Put yourself into gear
Some time schemer
Prove to them that you have no fear
You have no fear.

Lost in the crowd
Looking like everyone else
Head in the clouds
Not feeling what's being felt.

Completely detached
From all cause and effect
Your itch has been scratched
But you still fail to connect.

I know there's so many games
It's easy to be confused
But that doesn't alter the blame
Just claiming you've only been used.

Attic dreamer
Put yourself into gear
Some time schemer
Prove to them that you have no fear
You have no fear.

Lead break

The choice is yours
You are responsible
Try opening doors
Anything is possible.

Attic dreamer
Put yourself into gear
Some time schemer
Prove to them that you have no fear
You have no fear.

credits

from Real World, released April 1, 1982
- Jay Moxham... Nylon acoustic guitar, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocals, real Maxwin drum kit,, Roland Juno-60 and Poly-6 keyboards.
- Paul Dengate... Electric rhythm and lead guitar.

Notes:
- Again, no Bass... never got around to it.

- Paul's lead break is stunning! including the run at the end and then the bent notes fading down. And the 'chucker chucker' bits work really well.

- I play real drums on this one but also play my DR-55 Dr Rhythm drum machine 'Rim shot' sound live over the top! I think the live kit drum rolls are added later too.

- Original chorus that I actually sing is Antique Dreamer. It ended up after mixing that 'antique was hard to understand and Attic worked ever better symbolically.
