about

Pop Song was inspired by years of watching Countdown. Even back in the early 80's when music video was still in its infancy the hype from Molly was invigorating.

In an endless stream of local and overseas acts it seemed the weirder the better. And the quality of the song was often less important than the band or the sales. As long as Molly liked it and as long as Molly 'liked' the band members then it did well!

Each Countdown was like a feeding frenzy circus of acts and bands and charts and gold records and all to the delight of the record companies. It was the same on radio.

lyrics

Pop Song

This will be a popular song
That you will hear all the time
So you learn to sing along.

Over and over again it will play
Until you believe all the things
that the compares say, and the DJ.

Nobody cares what it's about
As long as its sells then it's good
Beyond all doubt

Into the charts going up going down
Just like a ride on a musical
merry-go-round

This song is destined to be number one
So stand aside because here it comes.
Here it comes, hear it come....

Lead break

Hear the DJ...
Every week on a TV show
You can see a different clip
of a video

Fresh faced boys on centre stage
Turning all the crowds into fits
Of hot wet raaaage.

This song is destined to be number one
So stand aside because here it comes.
Here it comes, hear it come....

We've just been told how many you've sold
We've just been told you're going gold
Going gold... going gold... going gooooold!!!!!!!!

This will be a popular song
This will be a popular song
This will be a popular song yes it will
This will be a popular song song song....

credits

from Real World, released April 1, 1982
- Jay Moxham... Nylon acoustic guitar, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocals, DMX drum programming, MSQ-700 sequencer programming controlling a JX-3P and Poly-6 keyboards and an SH-101.
- Paul Dengate... Electric rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals and production assistance.
- Samantha Trenoweth... backing vocals.
- Ken Handley... wrote the original Bass line that was programmed by Jay Moxham

- This was the biggest production job we ever did for any of the demo songs. It was recorded and mixed using 7 tracks on the 80-8 tape machine and running time code on track 8 that controlled the DMX digital drum machine which in turn synced the MSQ-700 sequencer.

We ended up running 7 tracks on tape (some of which may have been pre-mixed and bounced-down already) plus 10 tracks on outboard gear. It was a huge production and mix that meant we had to borrow a 24 channel mixer from Scotty, Paul's roadie/engineer.

- This version was actually put together by request with so much effort to impress Michael McMartin (Hoodoo Guru's manager) after his very serious interest. Unfortunately, he wasn't impressed enough. I think it just turned out toooo Poppy for him.

about

The Crazoids Willoughby, Australia

Crazy, young and frustrated with the ways of the world, The Crazoids was a futuristic, early-80's Pop music project that reflected upon the quirky sides of humanity as it approached the challenges of the 21st century. 'Released' here under the album title of Real World they are presented here purely in an historical context for posterity's sake. Created by Jay Moxham for the Japetus Project. ... more
